Extraordinary Love and Generosity: Foster Parents Transforming Lives

In an incredible display of love and generosity, Cora and Stan Krol, a couple from Pueblo, have opened their hearts and home to over 130 foster children in the past 34 years. Their journey began in 1989, after their own children had grown and left home. Feeling the quietness of an empty house, Cora expressed her curiosity about foster care to her husband. Little did they know that this decision would change the lives of numerous children forever.

Cora’s initial interest in foster care led her to work at a group home for adolescents. After witnessing the positive impact she could have on these young lives, Cora and Stan decided to embark on their own fostering journey. Since then, they have nurtured and raised more than 130 children, creating a loving and supportive environment for each one.

Over the years, Cora and Stan have encountered various challenges and witnessed incredible triumphs. They have cared for children who faced difficult circumstances, including some who ended up in prison. However, even in the face of adversity, their commitment and dedication to the well-being of these children remained unwavering.

Cora shared a heartwarming story of a young man who joined the U.S. Navy after turning 18. Initially deemed “too damaged” at the age of 7, he blossomed under the love and support provided by the Krols. His commanding officer even wrote a letter praising his character and growth. Such success stories reflect the profound impact that foster parents like Cora and Stan can have on young lives.

One of the secrets to the Krols’ success lies in the annual vacations they take with the children in their care. Each year, they embark on exciting trips to various destinations, allowing the children to explore places beyond their immediate surroundings. From Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Park in New Mexico to the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon in Arizona, these vacations provide the children with unforgettable experiences and broaden their horizons.

Fostering children has become a cherished family tradition for the Krols, as their biological daughter, Tammy Walton, has followed in their footsteps. Cora believes that their continued dedication is guided by a higher power. Even after three decades of fostering, they find it impossible to turn away from a child in need.

With Pueblo County currently facing a shortage of foster homes, Cora encourages others to consider becoming foster providers. The impact on both the foster parents and the children is immeasurable, offering love, support, and stability to those who need it most.
